When local Illinois insurance company, My Insurance Guy, faced the changes from Obamacare and an increased demand and workload on their agency, it required a new, more efficient technology solution.  We sat down with co-owner Karen Devito on how they found the solution for being able to win, with QuotePad.

1. What challenges or needs did you face that led you to look for a solution like QuotePad?

With Obamacare coming into place in the group insurance industry, a large majority of our business had to change their renewal dates to Dec 1st.  Before we had our business renewing all year long; every month we’d have 5, 10, or 15 groups renew at a time.  It was spread out throughout year.

All of a sudden we had 60 groups renewing at same time in December and it was very difficult for us to keep up with the demand and keep our customer base happy, providing them with the transparency of finding the best insurance products on the market.  They want to know that we’re shopping the best insurance products out there.  That’s our motto, ‘Let us shop the market for you’. Our current customer base is long term and it’s crucial for us to give them good service.


2. What criteria did you have in mind for a solution?

Everything I do has to be done fast and timely.  We are a small company team.  My husband is working directly with clients and new business and I’m doing the processing of it, all the HR, and office work.   I get all the information ready for the client and the enrollment meetings.  We do a large amount of work in a short period of time and it was important for me to be able to get the information I needed, right away without having to slice and dice it to a different spreadsheet many different times over.  Every agent that had to make quote requests to carriers directly had a turn around time of 2-3 wks.  And then my work was not done; once we got the information we would then have to decipher it, strip it down to the facts, and spreadsheet it against other quotes.  My workload went from evenly dispersed to hell in one month.  Everything had to be done fast and timely.  It was horrible.


3. Describe your selection process and what you found most attractive about QuotePad

Quoting tools are are somewhat available on an individual basis but nobody had it for group. There was another company, two years earlier that solicited to us and I was thinking about going with them but their format was very busy.  They had too many pages of excel spreadsheets, all they did was quote and I was right back to where I was before.  They were able to take me about 30% of the way for what I needed but I figured that was better than nothing. And then you guys came a long.  My husband and I couldn’t manage without your quoting tool.

The affordability aspect was huge and having your data available in our state (Illinois).  When I spoke about the other company that approached us, (again very unpleasing to eye), their sales rep spent four days to sell me on this platform and their data wasn’t even available in our state!

QuotePad was an affordable option with an awesome layout.  There is a high demand for the ‘side-by-side’ line up where people can look at their plans and see what benefits are offered.We live in a world of complexities and sometimes distrust, unfortunately, and we want our customers to see that we’ve done our homework. Having the ability to edit prices on the spot is awesome.  Being able to see every single plan available in an area, in one proposal, is fantastic. The ability to present every plan out there is absolutely priceless. It’s like the Apple of insurance.  You guys present it in a very friendly, simple, Steve Jobs-esque manner which makes my life a lot easier. When i look at your platform and see the ease of the buttons, the ease of things, it’s not stressful.  I can work so much better that way.


4. What business processes does QuotePad enhance and how much does it reduce the cost to complete these particular processes? How much time does QuotePad save your employees?

Not only does it save time, it’s saved our work lives.  My phone constantly rings.  We are a family business and when I saw my emails go from one to twenty as I was on a call asking an insurance company asking for a quote or getting a census together asking for quote, it’s such a stressful situation, beyond manageable.

Being able to run scenarios and get a quote has saved so much time.  I can’t call a carrier and get a quote based on a scenario situation.  Before, it took me 30 minutes just to run through getting a medical quote and I don’t even know if I did it right with them.  I would spend hours making calls and then consolidating or editing information to add plans and change things.  With QuotePad it’s as simple as 1-2-3, and then repeat. You guys are a marriage saver and a lifesaver.


5. What specific results have you seen from implementing QuotePad?

I have seven new groups in front of me all because of you guys.  And that’s all been within the last two weeks.  To be able to literally spit out prices to people that have never considered small group plans for their business before is life changing.  Because everything that has usually been presented to them before has been intimidating.  Your customer service is outstanding.  I’ve never had an issue where things are ignored or not addressed.  When you guys take a ticket, I know you are going to listen to what that ticket is and help me.  It does not fall on deaf ears. I have relied on QuotePad as much as I rely on my other data programs I open every morning.  QuotePad is engulfed in my everyday business and intertwined in my life. At this point I’m beyond satisfied with QuotePad; I am 100% dependent on it.
